Cockpit USA A-2 Mustang

A-2 Mustang

The Mustang A-2 jacket combines the classic look of the legendary A-2 jacket with an individual vintage look. Like the current mil.spec models, this model is made from full-grain goatskin. However, the Mustang A-2 is made using the more elaborate vegetable tanning method, which brings out the vintage treatment even better. The vintage treatment makes each jacket unique and shades can vary from production to production. To make the vintage look even more authentic, the jacket is equipped according to historical specifications with details such as a collar stand, locking hooks, which have fallen victim to the red pencil in more recent, official mil.spec. versions.
While the coveted vintage models are hard to find in a wearable condition, the historical sizes are also extremely small. The Mustang A-2 cut has therefore been adapted to today's requirements and a few small comfort features have been added to make everyday life easier.

A-2 Flight Jacket

The A-2 jacket was already the standard flight jacket of the US Air Force in the 1940s. In order to meet the enormous demand, it was produced by many manufacturers in parallel and sold under many contract numbers. Although the A-2 model was standardized in many details, it was available in horse leather, cowhide and goatskin due to the enormous quantities produced.

It was and still is considered a status symbol and, after being replaced by cloth jackets in the early 1950s, was surprisingly reintroduced to the Air Force in 1988. Many loud voices saw the US Air Force at a disadvantage compared to the US Navy, which never abolished its equally legendary G-1 Flight Jacket.
