Model History
The Backsmith Collection was inspired by the classic farm shoe of the 1920s. The raised shaft was functional, as it prevented snow from falling into the shoe in winter and dirt from falling into the shoe in summer. It performed well in the field, but could also be cleaned with little effort and was "presentable".
Last No.8
Last No. 8 is one of Red Wing's legendary lasts. It is also one of the oldest Red Wing lasts and has been shaping the shape of many popular styles for many decades. It is characterized by an optimal fit and a high wearing comfort. Last No. 8 features a toe protrusion that allows the toes to move more naturally.
Leather Quality
Red Wing's oil tanned leathers ( Oil tanned ) are extremely durable qualities and they have been used to make countless Red Wing Boots for over 100 years. The Oil Tanned leathers belong to the most robust qualities at all and are therefore also widely used in the work boot sector. The surfaces of these thick leathers have a very natural look because they are not treated with finishing products.

The SB Foot Tannery
S.B. The Foot Tanning Company has been a U.S. quality manufacturer of high quality leather for footwear and leather accessories since 1872. The leather is used by numerous shoe companies. However, the direct connection to the Red Wing Shoe Company is significant because the tannery is located in the same town.The S.B. Foot Tanning Company was first established on the banks of Trout Brook near Red Wing, Minnesota. Founded in 1872 by Silas B. Foot and George Sterling, the S.B. The Foot Tanning Company has been part of the Red Wing, Minnesota community for generations. In 1908, the company moved its operations to its current location on Bench Street.
In 1905, the tannery began supplying leather to a local "shoe worker" named Charles Beckman. Charles had started the Red Wing Shoe Company to manufacture shoes and boots. Within a few years, the combination of high quality leather and the craftsmanship of Red Wing Shoes would create a partnership that survives unbroken to this day.
